See It In Your Room

AR visualization for decorative fans, lighting, and premium switches

The Problem

Havells invests heavily in designer product lines - Stealth and Festanza ceiling fans, premium lighting fixtures, and REO designer switches. These are high-consideration, aesthetics-driven purchases where "will it look good in my room?" is the deciding question.

  • Consumers can't visualize a matte black ceiling fan against their white ceiling before buying
  • Dealer showrooms display limited variants - consumers don't see the full range
  • Returns and exchanges on decorative products due to color/size mismatch with room aesthetics
  • Purchase decisions default to "dealer-recommended" instead of consumer-chosen, weakening brand pull
The Solution

Consumer opens havells.com or the Havells app, browses any decorative fan, light, or switch - and taps "See It In Your Room." The phone camera opens, and the product appears in their actual space at real-world scale. They can change colors, swap variants, and share a screenshot with family before walking into a dealer and asking for it by name.

  • AR placement of ceiling fans, wall lights, and switch panels in the consumer's actual room
  • Real-world scaling - fan size relative to room dimensions looks accurate
  • Color and variant switching within the AR view
  • Screenshot and share - consumer sends to family for approval before buying
  • Works on browser (no app install needed) via Google Model Viewer / WebXR
Target Product Categories

Decorative Ceiling Fans

Stealth, Festanza, Leganza series. 50-80 SKUs where blade design, color, and size relative to room matter.

Premium Lighting

Chandeliers, wall sconces, LED panels. 30-40 fixtures where room aesthetics are the primary purchase driver.

Designer Switches

REO series switch plates. Color and finish need to match wall paint - AR lets consumers compare against their actual walls.

How It Works
  1. Consumer browses product on havells.com or app - selects a decorative fan or light fixture
  2. Taps "See It In Your Room" - camera opens, AR engine detects surfaces (ceiling for fans, walls for lights/switches)
  3. Product appears at real-world scale - consumer can reposition, rotate, and view from different angles
  4. Switch variants - change color (matte black to pearl white), size (48" to 56"), or finish without leaving AR view
  5. Screenshot and share - save image with product placed in room, share with family via WhatsApp
  6. Buy or find dealer - direct link to nearest dealer or online purchase with the exact variant selected
Technical Approach

Implementation

Web AR (no app needed): Google's <model-viewer> web component provides AR on any mobile browser. Uses WebXR on Android and Quick Look on iOS. A few lines of code per product.

3D Models: Each product needs a GLB/GLTF 3D model. If Havells has CAD files from manufacturing, conversion to GLB is fast and inexpensive. Otherwise, professional 3D modeling at $200-500 per SKU for 50-80 fan models + 30-40 lights.

Ceiling Placement: Standard AR detects floors and walls well. For ceiling fans, we use a hybrid approach - the fan renders in the camera view with manual positioning and scaling, giving the consumer accurate visual feel without requiring precise ceiling plane detection.

Timeline: 4-6 weeks with existing CAD files. 8-10 weeks if 3D models need to be created from scratch.

Key Benefits
  • Shifts purchase from "dealer-recommended" to "consumer-demanded" - brand pull over channel push
  • Reduces returns and exchanges on decorative products due to aesthetic mismatch
  • Increases time-on-site and engagement on havells.com - consumers explore more variants
  • Shareable AR screenshots drive organic word-of-mouth on WhatsApp and social media
  • Works on browser - no app download barrier, zero friction
  • Positions Havells as a design-forward brand, ahead of competitors like Crompton and Orient
